Books for Kids {and a giveaway}: Green by Laura Vaccaro Seeger

Congrats to Amber H. for winning our giveaway of Seeger’s book!

I came across Laura Vaccaro Seeger’s book – Green – a couple of months ago at the library, and I fell in love with it. So when I noticed that it was a 2013 Caldecott Honor Book, I knew that I wanted to snag a copy to give away. It is an exquisite concept book, all centered around a simple color…green.

Each page focuses on a different shade of green from khaki to faded to jungle to pea, and has discreet cutouts that bring the color from page to page. My kids really enjoyed guessing what the shapes were going to turn into, like tiny circles representing firefly lights on the “glow green” page turning into rosy red apples on the “shaded green” page. The images are created out of layered acrylics and are stunning…from the crackled swaths of green painted wooden boards to the wacky green and white striped zebra.  It is truly a celebration of the color green, and I am crossing my fingers that she has another color in the works!

I asked my sister to read a portion of the book to my youngest so you could get a sneak peek!

Want to hear the end of the story? Leave a comment sharing what you are looking forward to most about spring, and you will be entered into our giveaway to win your own copy of Green! 4. What excites me most about Spring here in San Francisco, is that it’s possibly our best season! We have more sun and less fog and wind. One of my favorite things about the city in Spring is how bright white and shiny the whole city is as the sun beats down on the buildings and water that surrounds us. It’s amazing!
    Thanks for the give-away opportunity!
