Make a Cootie Catcher!

Cootie Catcher

Talk about nostalgia.  Make a cootie catcher with your kids this holiday break and travel back in time to your middle school choir class where no one was listening (after all–the teacher spent all his time working with the soprano section and you were an alto) but instead, busying themselves planning the course their lives would take via scientific tools like M.A.S.H and cootie catchers.   I was supposed to marry Jordan Knight, live in a mansion in the Bahamas, have twelve kids……and to think……all that on the salary of a garbage man.  But I digress.

This truly is a fun little game to introduce your kids to and something different for them to do.  Here’s a great tutorial to re-learn how to make these;  it comes back like riding a bike.  We made ours out of big sheets of scrap book paper and huge pieces of construction paper.  My four year old is a little too young to think about marriage and salaries so we changed up the purpose of cootie catchers a bit.   We filled them with fun tasks to do like 20 jumping jacks, saying the ABC’s, counting to ten in Spanish, simple addition, easy sight words, pictures of words to spell, knock-knock jokes, would you rather questions, and easy little dares–like try some goat cheese.

Remember–you need two sets of numbers (or colors)….one set on the outside flaps, one set on the inside flaps, and the tasks underneath the inside flaps.

Go ahead!  Give it a try!  I promise it will be fun.

Hope the remainder of your holiday break is super!
