Amber….One Amazing Mama!

Posted by on 02 June 2012 in Featured Posts, MCG Moms, Mom Profiles | 2 comments

Yesterday, Amber  let us in on an interview she conducted with her son’s birth-mom regarding both of their thoughts and fears and hopes for their open adoption.  Today we learn a little bit more about her as a mom to one of the cutest little boys we’ve ever seen! And don’t forget!  She’ll be back at the end of the month to share with us what Mother’s Day in an open adoption can look like–it’s a fantastic glimpse into how healthy this arrangement can be for everyone involved–you don’t want to miss it!

1. How many kids do you have?
One amazing little boy!

2. How old is he?

He’s a terrific three year old!

3. What’s the best part of being a mom?
The “I Love you’s” and hugs and kisses.

4. Most challenging part of being a mom?
Trying to shape a little person into a kind, respectful, responsible human being.
5. What has surprised you the most about being a mom?

My first reaction was to answer with “projectile poop” but now I think that was just the most shockingthing. I’m surprised how much it really does change your entire perspective on every day life, every decisions, every move you make!
6. What’s something you couldn’t live without as a mom?
My amazing husband.  I don’t know how the precious single moms do it. Also, my facebook mommy friends.  Throughout my whole parenting career, the fastest way to find answers is a quick status asking for advice. In a matter of ten minutes, I have at least 50 comments!!  It takes a village!
7. What’s a character quality you hope your son inherits from you?
I really love my friends and making new friends.  Something that has upset me the most that B picked up from a little boy at preschool was “I’m not going to be your friend anymore if you…”.  I never want him to have that attitude and I want him to realize that friendships are worth fighting for.  Now I’ll catch him saying, “I’m not going to be your ummm purple hippo” or whatever animal comes to mind, because he knows he can’t say “friend”.  I want him to be a faithful friend.
8. How about from your husband?
My husband is loyal, hard-working, and polite. Any of those would be good for him to pick up on.

9. How about his birth mom?
Her selfless character and ability to laugh through anything.
10. What’s a character quality you hope he doesn’t inherit from you?
Procrastination. I can find a million other things to do besides what I’m really supposed to be doing.
11. What’s a battle you don’t fight anymore that you always swore you’d fight before becoming a mom?
Eating snacks in the car. My husband still despises the car clean up, but I enjoy the lack of whining and crying while B is enjoying some fishies or cheerios.
12. What’s the toy you’d like to lose?
Alphabet Apple, especially because he seems to find it at 5 am and I think a stranger is in my house.
13. What’s your pet peeve as a mom?
It’s quickly becoming, “I spy with my little eye”.  It was really cute when he started to play it, but now I desperately need some new car games.
14. What do you think is the biggest misconception about open adoption?
I think the biggest misconception or misperpection {yeah, I just made that word up} is about birth moms.  People assume that if you “allow” her to grow to close to you that she’s going to sneak off with your child in the middle of the night or be fiercely competitive in everything.  Thankfully, this is extremely far from the truth in our situation.
15. Who is your mommy role-model?
My friend, Angie.  She’s the mother of four children, all by way of open adoption, with three different birth moms. She loves on those birth moms with grace and compassion, but at the same time pours her heart and sole into those precious children.
16. What do you do when you’re not in full mommy mode?
I love to run, spend time with girlfriends, or catch a rare date with my husband.
